Raising pigs on a natural diet without heavily relying on pasture and foraging presents a considerable challenge! But, we are always up for challenges, especially if it makes our customers happy. We dedicated an entire year to developing a specialized feeding program with experts in animal nutrition from Rutgers University. Our commitment to health and sustainability has led us to a unique NON-GMO feed formula, avoiding corn to ensure our pigs receive the utmost care and nutrition. Our feed is crafted from a balanced mix of high-quality ingredients, designed to support the well-being and growth of our pigs and to move away from traditional corn-based feeds.

Despite all the challenges, the result is a premium, corn-free diet that results in a superior pork product. We firmly believe the investment in our time and our pigs’ health is not only a testament to our farming philosophy but also ensures the superior taste and quality of our pork products.

Pasture-raised pork is often considered special and superior to conventionally raised pork for several reasons:

  1. Improved Animal Welfare: Pasture-raised pigs are typically allowed to roam freely in open fields or pastures, providing them with more space to move, root, and express natural behaviors. They have access to fresh air and sunlight, leading to better overall animal welfare compared to pigs raised in confined, industrial settings.
  2. Natural Diet: Pasture-raised pigs are often supplemented with a natural diet that includes foraged plants, insects, and other organic matter in addition to commercial feed. This diverse diet can result in healthier and more flavorful meat compared to pigs raised solely on commercial grain-based feed.
  3. Healthier Fats: Pigs raised on pasture tend to have a healthier fat profile in their meat. They have higher levels of omega-3 fatty acids and lower levels of unhealthy saturated fats, making pasture-raised pork a more heart-healthy option.
  4. Improved Taste and Texture: Many consumers find that pasture-raised pork has a more complex and robust flavor compared to conventionally raised pork. The meat can be juicier and more tender due to the pigs’ active lifestyle and varied diet.
  5. Environmentally Sustainable: Pasture-raising pigs can be more environmentally friendly because it reduces the negative impacts associated with concentrated animal feeding operations (CAFOs). These operations often generate excessive waste and require significant resources, whereas pasture-based systems promote sustainable land use and minimize pollution.
  6. No Antibiotics or Hormones: Pasture-raised pork is often produced without the use of antibiotics or hormones. This can be important for those concerned about the overuse of antibiotics in livestock farming and potential health impacts.
  7. Support for Local Farmers: Choosing pasture-raised pork often supports local farmers and small-scale, sustainable agriculture. This helps strengthen local economies and food systems.
  8. Transparency and Traceability: Many pasture-raised pork producers emphasize transparency in their production methods and provide consumers with information about how the animals are raised. This can help consumers make more informed choices about the meat they purchase.

Overall, what makes pasture-raised pork special is the emphasis on animal welfare, natural farming practices, improved taste and nutritional quality, and the potential for more sustainable and ethical meat production. Consumers who prioritize these factors often seek out pasture-raised pork as a premium choice in the meat market.
